Bark in the Park 2-Revenge of the Cats!!

Due to the popularity of Bark in the Park, this year we have added a second Bark in the Park at the State College Spikes' home field. Bark in the Park 2, Revenge of the Cats is scheduled for Thursday, August 20th. Gates will open at 6pm. As always, humans are welcome on a leash when accompanied by at least one canine!! The second Bark in the Park will be spotlighting cat rescue groups and we want all of our canine friends to help us celebrate their feline friends in need by voting for their favorite charity. As always, we will have fun for the whole family so come on out for a great evening of baseball with your friends!!

4th Fest in State College

We want to invite everybody out to the annual 4th Fest celebration. 4th Fest is held annually on the Penn State Campus in State College on the 4th of July. As always, Metzger Animal Hospital is one of the main sponsors of the all volunteer event. Be sure to look for Doctor Metzger playing drums at 5pm as his band, Keenaband, takes the White Stage. For more information check out the 4th Fest website at http://www.4thfest.org/.

Fourth Annual Bark in the Park

We are very excited to announce this year's Bark in the Park will be held Monday, June 29th at Medlar Field (home of the State College Spikes). Game time is 7:05pm but we recommend arriving around 6 PM so you and your pooch can enjoy in all the pre-game dog activities. Due to last year's overwhelming response we have decided to keep the same theme-Rally for the Rescues. For those of you who weren't at the ball game last year, here's a quick rundown on the evening.

Bark in the Park is a magical night where you can actually bring your dog to the ball park for the game. Wiscoy Pet Food Company hosts an ice cream social for dogs and many of our local canine rescue groups in the area have activities involving our beloved rescue pooches. Every dog entering the ballpark gets a vote which he or she can cast for their favorite rescue groups. At the beginning of the game, the votes are counted and each vote translates into dollars for every run scored by the Spikes. (A minimum is set of course-- this is a benefit for the rescue groups!!) The bottom line is every rescue raises money to help dogs in need and you and your dog helped!

This year we are pleased to announce that we are also collecting pet food donations for the Pet Pantry of Centre County, a new pet food bank that distributes dog and cat food and supplies throughout the Centre County Region. Hills Pet Foods has agreed to match food donations so bring a bag of dry or canned food and help feed the animals in need. Donation boxes will be placed outside the entrance gates of the Spikes field. Please email caitlin@metzgeranimal.com for more information on Bark in the Park or the Pet Pantry.

2008

362 dogs help Metzger Animal Hospital raise $2,000 for Centre County Rescues!

What a great night! 362 dogs X the 4 runs Spikes scored = $1,448 for Centre County Rescues. We're rounding that up to $2,000 because the crowd was so awesome! And the Spikes snapped their losing streak. Maybe they need to have dogs in the park every night? Thanks for bringing out your humans for a great night of dog baseball fun ( for a good cause too ). We'll have our own pictures up soon, so stop back here to see them.

The Arc Bark
April 27, 2008 at 3:00 PM
at The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg

The Arc of Centre County will hold its second annual Arc Bark on Sunday, April 27, 2008. The event will be held at the Pennsylvania Military Museum grounds in Boalsburg, a very public location with great facilities. While raising money for The Arc of Centre County, the Arc Bark will also promote the human-animal bond that is so important to animal owners. The Arc Bark is a walk for humans and their dogs; to come and enjoy the day, get some exercise, associate with other dog owners, and raise money through sponsorships. Participants are encouraged to be part of a team of community minded; dog-loving people, or they can walk individually. In addition to the walk (participants can walk as long or as short as they - or their dog - desires), there will be a variety of "doggie" activities available to take advantage of. These activities include paw painting (instead of finger painting), photo opportunities for you and your dog, as well as a craft booth to make a tug toy. Several other activities are also being considered at this time. Watch the site for updates and details of this year's event! http://taocc.org/index.php

CPL has several types of assistance dogs in its program including service dogs, seizure alert dogs, home companions and residential (community) companions. Our recipients come from all walks of life and have a wide variety of physical disabilities including muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, seizure disorders and more. The one thing they all have in common is a drive to become more independent and a commitment to do what is necessary to have an assistance dog in their life. Metzger Animal Hospital works closely with CPL and sponsored Annie and Matilda-two cute Labradors!
