fred A native of Centre County, Dr. Fred Metzger received his B.S. with high distinction in Animal Bioscience, from Penn State University in 1981 and graduated with honors from the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986.

Dr. Metzger is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, a select group of veterinary specialists certified by examination. He is one of only nine board-certified ABVP practitioners in the state of Pennsylvania and one of 550 nationwide.

Dr. Metzger currently serves as an adjunct professor at Penn State University and helps teach several classes. In addition, he frequently lectures to fellow veterinarians nationwide speaking on various topics, including clinical pathology, internal medicine and his favorite subject geriatric medicine. He has authored numerous publications including co-authoring a textbook “A Guide to Hematology of the Dog and Cat”.

Dr. Metzger currently resides in Pennsylvania Furnace with two rescue dogs (Gracie and Zildjan) and four rescue cats (Sam, Roxanne, Bean and Boo). FYI-You might see Dr. Metzger at a local gig playing drums for the classic rock group “Overhead” www.overhead.org.

fred at drumsDr. Fred is presenting 4 lectures at the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, the second largest conference in the world. He is also playing drums for the veterinary band Projectile, which is the opening band for Chicago (yes, the famous band) at the conference. The band also opened recently for Clint Black. Fred plays with the local band Overhead at various central PA. venues. You can see him (and the rest of OverheaD) April
